Over years, leather is one of mans most useful discoveries due to its comfort and qualities. How could it be? Lets see how the story is..
Do you ever notice the outfit of primitive man in most of documentary films? Sure, leather! Well, leather is actually found by them. One day, a primitive man found that the skins of animals that had been killed were very warm, giving them comfort and strong. Generally, hunted animals for their skins were cows, alligators, wooly mammoths, sheep, horses, and even tigers. However, the skins were too brittle and began to rot as time goes by. Eventually, to render the skins more flexible and stronger, the primitive man ‘tanned’ the hides and skins. He used smoke, animal fat, soil, and fish oil. In fact, most researchers have found that tanning permanently changes the protein structure of that skins turning them to be supple yet durable. The hides and skins that have been tanned are called leather.
Having found that tanning was a good method of making the skins useful, the man soon found many uses for any kind of clothing. Those benefits demand many different properties in leather which results in good qualities of leather products.
